Community Partnerships

Citystep
Citystep is an undergraduate-run organization that aims to enrich the educational experience of public school youth by introducing them to dance and other creative activities as a medium for self expression, a method to enhance self-esteem, and a means to mutual understanding. Citystep works with the FMA 5th during the school day, and with some of our 6th and 7th graders after school.

City Year
This is an AmeriCorps program, a national service organization which unites young adults, ages 17 to 24, for a year of fulltime rigorous community service, leadership development, and civic engagement. The City Year volunteers wok in classrooms during the school day, and assist with tutoring in the Extended Day Program.

Lesley University
Fletcher-Maynard Academy is a K through 8 Literacy Collaborative Program. We partner with Lesley College training our three Literacy Coordinators in the best practices in Reading and Writing. They then offer Professional Development and Coaching to the rest of the FMA staff.

We have many volunteers from Lesley College in our Extended Day Program teaching the Peace Games curriculum, solving problems using words instead of actions and working together cooperatively.

Lesley University sends many students to do their Teaching Practicum and Student Teaching at the Fletcher-Maynard Academy.

MIT Environmental Project
Students from MIT come into the third grade classrooms and teach the students about the environment and then take them on field trips to allow them the opportunity to apply what they have learned outside of school.

Science Club for Girls

Tutoring Plus opened its newest program, a tutoring center for Middle Grade students, (Grades 6-8) at Fletcher-Maynard, two nights a week. All of the programs are staffed by volunteers and are free of charge.

Young People’s Project (YPP)
The Young People’s Project develops students aged 8-22 from traditionally marginalized populations as learners, teachers, leaders, and organizers through math and media literacy, community-building, and advocacy in order to build a unique network of young people who are better equipped to navigate life’s circumstances, are active in their communities, and advocate for education reform in America.
