Eating Our Math
Mrs. Basu and Ms. Foley’s kindergarteners have been learning about 3D
shapes, and to promote better understanding and have a memorable
experience, students got to “eat their math”!
Students sorted
snacks onto their place mats under 2D or 3D. For instance, a cheese ball
is a sphere and would be placed onto the 3D side while a hexagon shaped
flat cracker would be pushed to the 2D side.
Students were then
asked to name the shapes they sorted and explain how they knew it was 2D
or 3d as well as share with the class their favorite snack shape. The
rectangular prism chocolate bars were a big hit.
