Autism Awareness Week at FMA

Autism Awareness Week at FMA
Posted on 03/05/2015

In 2008, the United Nations General Assembly decreed that the first Tuesday in April thereafter would be celebrated around the world as Autism Awareness Day. The FMA celebrate Autism Awareness Week, March 30-April 2, 2015.

One of the ways suggested to celebrate is to light you house or room up blue for the evenings of April 1 and 2. There are some easy ways to do this.

  1. Buy a blue light bulb at Home Depot and put it in an outside light, such as one at entrance to your house or apartment and leave it on all night.
  2. Put the blue bulb in a stand-alone lamp or light fixture near a window and leave it burning all night.
  3. Tape blue tissue paper over an outside-facing window and leave the room lights on.
  4. Tape blue cellophane on your window and do the same.
  5. Locate a holiday electric candle and insert a blue light bulb and place it in your window.

FMA is Lighting It Up Blue all week, and, in partnership with The Mayor, is Lighting City Hall Up Blue as well. Watch for more information in your child’s backpack!
