What’s Happening in 5th Grade?

The fifth grades are now finally settling into their new role as the leaders of the school. They have established the classroom hopes and dreams and signed their classroom contract.
Math
In math, they just finished reviewing place value and rounding numbers to the nearest thousands. The next unit is on multiplying and dividing whole numbers. They will learn to use various strategies to multiply and divide by tens, hundreds, and thousands.
Science
The current science unit involves plants and soil and the study of rocks and minerals. Next month the 5th graders will take a trip to the Maynard Ecology Center to do some hands-on activities involving weathering and erosion.
Social Studies
In social studies, they are learning about latitude and longitude, and understanding geographic terms to help them navigate maps.
