An eight hour school day requires many opportunities to MOVE!

Kids at DeskThis month, both the fourth and fifth graders used movement to review important concepts before assessments.

Fifth grade readers completed their Character Analysis unit using the mentor text Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis. They engaged in Literary Jenga prior to their unit test. Questions included ideas on theme, conflict, character traits, and author's style. Questions were color coded in order to differentiate the difficulty level and make sure everyone had a 'Just Right' challenge. Students focused on building on one another's ideas as well as respectfully agreeing and disagreeing with each other's opinions.

Fourth grade scientists played the human edition of Hungry, Hungry Hippo prior to taking their district Science assessment. Working in pairs, they collected one ball at a time with a pail while on scooters and answered the review questions that corresponded with that color. This semester, fourth graders focused on the Changing of Earth's Surface as well as Energy. Students certainly exerted a lot of kinetic energy with this activity and had a wonderful time collaborating on their thinking. Matthew, a fourth grader, exclaimed that this was a "super fun way to learn something."
