Happy (almost) spring, FMA! This year in my "half-time" capacity at FMA I am supporting all of our grades with technology integration, but only seeing grades 2 through 4 for weekly technology classes. I am also co-teaching our 5th grade Liibrary/Tech class with Ms. Kozikis. Here's what's up!
In grade two, we have just completed our very first Google Slides project! Our scholars learned how to design informational "About Me" slide decks with a title slide, bullet slide, and photo slide. They also learned how to make fancy transitions between slides, and even animate each slide so that their facts and pictures swooped in one at a time. Finally, they each presented their slides to the class, using a slide clicker. They all did great, and were very proud to share their work!
Grade 3 recently completed a really cool Google Sheets spreadsheet project, in which they each opened their own imaginary "store," and tracked the profits on three items over the course of three months. They were amazed to see that Google Sheets could automatically create a bar graph of their data with one click! The students were very happy to bring home a color printout of their final product.
In grade four, our scholars have been taking a deep dive into Digital Literacy, learning about important topics such as creating an effective password, and what type of information is safe to share online. Coming up we will focus on scams and schemes, maintaining a positive digital footprint, and distinguishing fake news from real news online.
In grade 5 Library/Tech, Ms. Kozikis and I are leading our fifth grade scholars in an exciting research project on Endangered Species. We have completed our research, and are now finishing up our scripts and filming a short movie using green screen technology, which will place our student reporters right into the habitats of the animals they are studying. The students are excited about using green screen technology in our video editing software, WeVideo!
