On our last day in Dakar we visited schools. One of the schools was the IQRA Bilingual Academy (iqraba.org)
whose mission is to produce students with superior academic
backgrounds, strong Islamic moral character, and a strong sense of
social responsibility. Uniforms were primarily red, black, and brown –
with boys wearing polo-style shirts and slacks and girls wearing hijab
of the same colors.
During our visit, FMA students and staff had the opportunity to sit
in on classes, take recess, and participate in collaborative activities
with the IQRA students. Our students discovered that although separated
by an ocean, they and their new friends (pictured) studied similar
things and shared similar experiences in school. At the end of our visit
FMA and IQRA students and staff feverishly exchanged contact
information so they could stay in touch.
