Dear Fletcher Maynard Academy Community,
It feels good to be back in Cambridge and fully engaged in the happenings at FMA. My mother is making good progress and I look forward to having her return home. Thank you for all of the good vibes and well wishes.
Here we are, May 18th with just a month left to the school year and there is a lot to do and talk about. Typically, I send out an update each Monday, but moving forward I’ll send information as things get finalized. Below are some of the topics we are working on.
- Early Childhood (PK, JK, K) Open House
- Summer Support Opportunities
- Year End Exit Documentation and/or Parent/Teacher Conversations
- 5th Grade Moving On Ceremony
- School Talent Show
- Whole Community Year End Celebration
- Leadership Transition
Please join our weekly, FMA Parent Zoom meeting tomorrow at 4PM for a discussion on homework. Kevin Zurrica, an FMA intern from B.U., has been exploring the topic. He has surveyed staff and parents and done a bit of research on best practices. Kevin will share findings and then along with Uche, facilitate the discussion.
I’m also encouraging families to do your best to engage in the plethora of classroom meetings (live and recorded), specialist connections, small group meetings, and social connections being offered by staff. Keeping that in mind, parents really are the unsung heroes of remote learning. I acknowledge how difficult this can be, the staff and I appreciate you!
Lastly, I want you to know that Maisha Rounds, the new FMA principal and I have been communicating. She is so excited to join the FMA community and her energy and passion for urban education shows. I feel really good about leaving FMA in such caring hands. On Friday, Ms. Hood brown and I will give Ms. Rounds an up close and personal view of our building. Starting next week she will join in on cluster and team meetings. She’ll also try to join our weekly parent meeting on June 2. With the help of family liaison, Daniel Skeritt and PTO officers, opportunities to meet with her will be set up.
When you start to think about it, there really is so much to do and very little time. But together, I’m confident we will make everything work. Have an awesome week and reach out with questions.
Warmly,
Robin
